10 Minute Zero-Waste, Vegan Gift: Vegan Chocolate Bark

IMG_8770.JPG

Need a last minute Christmas gift, but don’t wanna make another trip to the store? Chocolate bark is a quick and easy treat that you can make from things you probably already have in your pantry!

Bark can also be easily made vegan and zero-waste. It’s a great way to use up something that’s been crushed, like pretzel crumbs from the bottom of the bag. I love packaging mine in a repurposed mason jar, that the gift receiver can then reuse! To make this gift fully zero-waste, you can get any new ingredients in bulk in a reusable container.

The bark only takes a few minutes to prep, and then you’ll just need to let it cool for a few hours before packing it up and sharing it with your loved ones!

Vegan Chocolate Bark

makes 1 large sheet of bark

Time: Approx. 10 Minutes to prep, 3-5 hours to cool

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of vegan chocolate chips or chocolate melts

  • 2 tbsp of coconut oil (or any oil of choice)

  • Assorted Toppings: (any amount)

    • nuts (hazelnuts, walnuts, cashews, old trail mix, etc)

    • pretzels

    • coconut flakes

    • crushed up candy canes

    • crushed up cookies

    • sea salt

    • and pretty much anything else you have lying around that would taste good on chocolate!

To Make:

  1. In a glass bowl, melt the chocolate chips and the coconut oil together in the microwave in 30 second increments, stirring in between rounds. This is really important so the chocolate doesn’t burn!

  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicon baking mat. Spread out the melted chocolate in an even layer.

  3. Sprinkle toppings on randomly, or into section to keep flavours separate.

  4. Let cool in the refrigerator or at room temperature! Once cool, break into pieces and enjoy!
