DIY Rose Water
DIY skincare is one of the best ways to reduce waste and ensure that your products are clean and free of harmful chemicals. I haven’t made a lot of my own skincare yet, so I decided to start with Rose Water this week!
We have a miniature rosebush in our backyard that’s in full bloom, so I thought I would use some of those up while we still have a bunch left on the bush. We also have some purple roses, so I threw in a few petals from those.
You don’t have to grow your own roses though - if you receive roses as a gift, why not repurpose them into a long lasting product near the end of their life? Rosewater can be very expensive and comes in unnecessary packaging, and it’s so easy to make on your own.
After only 45 minutes or so, I had made a rosewater face spray and a jar of concentrated rosewater! Tip: I always keep the containers from any skincare/body-care products (ex. perfume, jars, tubs, pumps) because they’re perfect for reusing when making your own skincare. If you’re using an old perfume bottle, make sure you wash it out really well so that the old perfume smell doesn’t mask the fresh scent of the rose water.
Benefits of Rose Water:
helps to unclog pores and restores the pH level of your skin
soothes irritation
contains antioxidants and antibacterial properties
helps with hydration
helps reduce signs of aging/fine lines
can be consumed to relieve sore throats and help with headaches (if consuming, make sure to consume in small amounts as it can be harmful if you’re allergic to it!)
How to Make Rosewater:
Because I had never made it before, I followed The Healthy Maven’s Tutorial. Her video tutorial is short, easy to follow and super simple - I can’t put it any simpler, so I linked it directly! You’ll only need two ingredients:
rose petals (I filled a small bowl with miniature roses, then picked those petals)
distilled water (I only needed enough to cover the bottom of a small pot, but depending on how much you make you may need more)
So far, I’ve been using my rosewater as a facial mist and have been loving it! How do you use rosewater?
